Meet Carrie
I’m Carrie Smith, a licensed real estate salesperson with Krutz Properties. I live in Fort Plain and help buyers and sellers across Montgomery, Fulton, Herkimer, and Schoharie counties.
Nearly 30 years behind the chair
Before real estate, I spent nearly 30 years as a hairdresser and colorist. I built a successful business working for myself on a side street. I loved the work and the people, and I still cut hair today.
Color was technical work. I had to understand the chemistry, what someone’s hair could handle, and what was realistically possible. Sometimes that meant explaining that a result would take time. Sometimes it meant saying I couldn’t do it. I would rather lose an appointment than damage someone’s hair or promise something I knew I couldn’t deliver. Under-promise and over-deliver was always my business model.
Why I made the change
Health issues meant I needed to step away from working with color chemicals. I still loved doing hair, but I had to figure out how to replace the income I was losing.
Real estate was something I’d wanted to do since I first got out of school. Back then, I needed to get out and work, so it didn’t happen. My broker was one of my salon clients. When I needed a change, I decided to go for something I’d always been interested in.
I earned my license in June 2025. A little over a year later, I’ve helped close more than 20 property sales.
How I work today
There’s a lot I enjoy figuring out here: older homes, village houses, country properties, acreage, and places that need work. I ask questions, research what I can, and help clients get answers from the right professionals when something needs an inspector, lender, attorney, or engineer.
I’ve always been good with people, and I like getting to know what matters to them. I want you to understand what you’re buying or selling, what we know, and what we still need to find out.
Tell me what you’re hoping to do. We’ll figure out where to start.
Full disclosure: these are my thoughts. AI helped organize them. If you’ve ever heard me tell a story, you understand why. 😂
